Since a long time movie or film was used as a media of propaganda to tell a comprehension to our society and to change our perception. Movie can make public opinion without we realize about that and more effective. So, we don’t surprise that the beginning movie is just a show but its change, now movie can be media propaganda. United States of America is one of country that use movie as a media to make a good image to their country.
USA is not country be the first use movie as a media, but Union Soviet is the first country that use movie as a media propaganda. In “How to Read a Film”, the book written by James Monaco, Union Soviet especially in Stalin era, movies was used by the government to overspread ideology of Communism to the society.
If we talk about movie as media propaganda we can’t turn that United States of America with their Hollywood is an icon of movie propaganda at this time in the world. We can’t find many film from United States of America have mean inside and have a goal to make United States of America get a good image. And I will tell you some of American movie: “Rambo” takes setting when Vietnam War is happened in 1960’s. Rambo is a name of superhero soldier, who rescue United States of America in that war and bring the victory for USA. But the fact’s United States of America lost in that war. “2012” A film tells about the end of days/doomsday. In one of scene President of USA reject to go to China and he choose to stay with America citizen. President of USA looks so care. “From Paris with Love” A film talks about terrorism, where America is a superhero by destroy the terrorist and succeed to prevent the exploding of bomb. “Iron Man II”, Iron man is a film which still brings the cold war atmosphere. A film tells about two rivalries between United States of America and Russia in modern military weapon. And of course America is a winner. Ivan Vanko, who is representative of Russia people’s describing is a bad guy and Tony Stark (the iron man) representative of American, he is a good man, the man be a superhero, who is safe the world. American movies give effects or give influences to international society perception about USA it self. From those movies, we can think that United States of America is big country. America is superhero country with many bring the victory in every battle like in Vietnam War, Cold War. And from “From Paris with Love” movie we can take one conclusion that United States of America concern to destroy the terrorist. And from “Iron Man II”, we can think that United States of America has a big role to create a world peace with their sophisticated weapon. International society perception after saw that movie is they can think that America is a good country, and the president is very care to their citizen, the country is be a guardian of peace.
Now, movie is not just being a movie but movie is used for media propaganda and can make a good image in one country, example is in USA. Many films from United States of America have goal to change or overspread comprehension to international society that United States of America is a good country, superhero and superpower country. We don’t just watch the movie but we must find out is there any latent goal from that movies because it can be useful when we are looking at the United States of America. Is that true United States of America is like being described in their movies?
